Yogurt, Good for Digestion and Source of Protein!

With the recent interest in Greek yogurt it presents an opportunity to review the benefits of yogurt.  It is a tasty food to add protein to your diet. Yogurt is good for the digestive tract by helping to achieve a natural balance of organisms.  A Tufts University study found additionally yogurt may help with intestinal transit time as well as enhancement of the immune system.

Yogurt is formed by combining warm milk with the bacteria lactobacillus bulgaricus and streptococcus thermophilus.  These two are required by the FDA but manufacturers can electively add other “probiotics” such as lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacterium.

(Did You Know?   Tomorrow Tuesday August 23rd is Botox/Filler Day here. Call 793-5772 for an appointment.)

There are many ways to serve yogurt; frozen, plain with fruit and nuts, smoothies, or my favorite with vanilla protein powder and fruit to make a protein shake.  Watch the amount of fat grams and added sugars.  Eat as a snack or right before bedtime for one of your 6 meals of the day.
