Maintaining Exercise Motivation through Variety!

Monday, 25 July 2011 12:15 by McKenna

Do you cross train, take different dance/exercise classes, or use the assistance of a personal trainer?  The benefits are not only to maintain interest through variety but it also increases overall fitness by working different systems.  The Wall Street Journal recently had an article on someone who uses the roll of the dice.

What he did was to write down twenty activities that involved some form of physical activity.  Now, daily, he rolls dice to see which activity he does for 30 minutes.  They range from standard weight lifting, running, and swimming to a monkey-bar crawl and boxing.  He even named them.  For example, the Lebron is for shooting basketballs, the Yosemite for rock climbing and the Rihanna for paddle boarding since he saw a picture of her doing it.

(Did You Know?  Exercising or doing physical activities as a family not only adds variety but also encourages your children to start good exercise habits early.)

The key to all of this is to make the commitment to do some physical activity or exercise daily.  What do you do to increase variety and commitment to exercise?  Let me know and I’ll share some of the creative methods.
