Healthy Habits Decrease Risk of Diabetes

Monday, 24 August 2009 04:32 by McKenna

A recent article in the Archives of Internal Medicine discusses five habits to reduce the risk of diabetes.  They are an active physical lifestyle, a healthy diet, light or moderate alcohol consumption, not smoking, and avoiding being overweight (waist size under 34.6 inches for women and 36.2 inches for men.)

(Did You Know?  Dr. Mozaffarian, the author of this article, also estimates that 9 0f 10 new cases of diabetes are attributable to lifestyle factors.)

Also those who slept less than six hours were more likely to have elevated blood sugars.  So, get your rest, indulge in a healthy lifestyle and minimize a disease that can limit the enjoyment of the second half of your life!
